2/3s Work Together to Use a Giant Compass
Last class the 2/3s finally began constructing their Earth Work together. To start off we measured out the diameter of the space we would need. Then they gathered rocks from the playground in a wheelbarrow. In order to create a nice even circle the 2/3s worked together to use a giant compass made out of two pencils and a loop of yarn. One student sat in the middle of the circle and help the pencil into the ground with the yarn looped around the pencil. Another student held another pencil with the other end of the loop wrapped around it. Then, being sure that the yarn was taught, the student with the second pencil slowly moved the pencil in a large circle around the mid point. While the student holding the second pencil moved around the midpoint, the other students took turns "drawing" with rocks by slowly drizzling them in a line. They continued this process until they completed the circle. The 2/3s were able to complete both circles and will start the next step on Monday!!
